It is an honour and a privilege for the Hjördis Schymberg Foundation to announce the national 2018 Hjördis Schymberg Song Award. It is a competition for singers leading up to a final concert in Sundsvall, on Saturday, October 27, 2018: First prize SEK 50 000, second prize SEK 25 000, third prize SEK 10 000. Agents will be present at the final concert.
The Hjördis Schymberg Award is a competition open to young professional opera singers and to opera students, 20 to 35 years old. It includes three stages:
- Make an application no later than March 9 at http://schymbergaward.se/schymberg-award-audition/ Include two opera arias in their original languages and one art song, Lied, in your own language. The recording should be live, made with a pianist or with an orchestra. No recorded accompaniment (“karaoke”). A jury will make the selection of the semifinalists.
- There will be a call for semifinals in Stockholm, on June 2-3. For the semifinals, you bring four opera arias in their original languages and two art songs, Lieder, in their original languages. The jury will choose what they want to hear. The semifinals constitute a live audition with a pianist. The jury select the finalists.
- The finals take place on Saturday, October 27, 2018, with the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Eva Ollikainen, at Tonhallen, Sundsvall.
